Competition: Premier League
Market: Southampton win
Odds: 17/10 @ 888sport
Hoping to pick up their first victory of the season this weekend, Southampton will welcome Wolves to St. Mary’s on Sunday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, managing to book their spot in the fourth round of this year’s EFL Cup away at Championship outfit Sheffield United in midweek, Southampton should be looking to build off of that momentum. While the Saints might still be looking for their first Premier League victory since opening the 2021/22 campaign, Head Coach Ralph Hasenhüttl has been filled with praise for his side’s recent displays. Facing what has been a tricky fixture list at the start of the season, the one-time RB Leipzig boss saw his side put in an eye-catching performance last weekend. Putting in a rugged display away at defending English champions Manchester City, Southampton landed an impressive 0-0 stalemate at the Etihad. Now taking points off of the likes of City, Manchester United, and West Ham, the South Coast outfit should be smelling a chance.
As for the visitors, while Wolves might have managed to pick up what was a much-needed 2-0 win away at Watford when returning from the international break, the Oranges drastically came crashing back down to earth. Crashing out of the EFL Cup in midweek at the hands of Tottenham, despite mounting a rally on home soil, new boss Bruno Lage is desperate for his side to find some stability. Coming under real scrutiny after a worrying 2-0 loss against Premier League debutants Brentford at Molineux last weekend, the former Benfica boss has seen his side lose four of their opening five top-flight matchups. Drawing a blank in each of those four Premier League defeats, Southampton appear at attractive odds here to land their first victory on Sunday afternoon.
