Teden Mengi has named the three main leaders of the Manchester United WhatsApp chat.
Mengi teamed up with United legend Wayne Rooney at Derby County in January, joining the Rams on loan for the remainder of the season to get some first team experience under his belt.
The teenager made his United first team debut against LASK in last season’s Europa League and has been in and around the senior side at United for the last 12 months, meaning he knows exactly what’s going on in the team’s WhatsApp chat.
“There are a lot of leaders. Harry (Maguire) is one. Bruno (Fernandes), Paul (Pogba),” Mengi told YouTube channel UMM.
“They’re not chatting off. Because in that squad WhatsApp it’s like all to do with football, so they’re the vocal ones about that side.”
The 18-year-old is yet to add to his solitary United first team appearance, resulting in him joining Derby in January – and he was full of praise for Derby boss Rooney.
“He has been brilliant,” Mengi added. “As soon as I found out Derby were interested, Wayne was on the phone. He was telling me what the club is about and what he wants from me. He has been brilliant with me so far.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was the man who handed Mengi his first team debut, and the United boss has been generous in his willingness to give youth a chance at Old Trafford.
Mason Greenwood has been a real beneficiary of this, and the teenage forward is a former school mate and long-term friend of Mengi’s.
“We went to the United school from year 9, me and Mason, and that’s when we both started becoming tight, strong, really good friends,” Mengi said. “He’s motivated me and I help him every way that I can. It’s good to have Mason around me.”
