Sevilla vs Barcelona – Copa del Rey Has never lost
Marc-Andre ter Stegen has had a wonderful time playing against Sevilla during his Barcelona career. The German goalkeeper has faced the Andalusian side 11 times since he arrived in Spain and has never lost in any competition.
He has also won three titles against them, including a UEFA Super Cup, a Supercopa de Espana and a Copa del Rey.
In addition, in his last two matches against them, both of which have been in LaLiga Santander, Ter Stegen has kept a clean sheet. He will be hoping to continue these records come Wednesday night when the two teams face each other once more.
Ter Stegen‘s success against Sevilla started in the 2015/16 season in the final of the UEFA Super Cup – a match the Catalan club won 5-4 after extra time.
That same campaign, in May, Barcelona won the Copa del Rey final 2-0 after extra time against the team then led by Unai Emery, with Ter Stegen again in goal.
In the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons, the goalkeeper again crossed paths with the Andalusian side and Barcelona won two of the games and drew the other two.
In 2018/19, Barcelona won the Supercopa de Espana after beating Sevilla 2-1, with Ter Stegen in the net.
Last year, they crossed paths once more. The Catalans prevailed at the Camp Nou by winning 4-0, and they drew 0-0 at the Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan.
Ronald Koeman decided to stick with Ter Stegen last week against Granada in the Copa del Rey, to the detriment of Neto.
The Dutchman knows that this tournament is an excellent opportunity to pick up silverware and isn’t planning on rotating his goalkeeper, like some other coaches do. As such, he is likely to stick with Ter Stegen once more when the Blaugrana travel to the Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan for the first leg of the semi-final.
