Baseball A record has been broken
Less than two years ago, former NFL player Evan Mathis sold a 1952 baseball card of New York Yankees legend Mickey Mantle for 2.37 million euros.
Back then, it was the second highest figure ever paid for a sports card, overtaken only by the 2.57m euros spent in October 2016 for a 1909 Honus Wagner card.
However, this record has been broken as the Mantle card has been recently sold for 4.28m euros, which is 5.2m dollars, on the PWCC online auction site.
Mantle is one of the most legendary Yankees players along with Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio.
With the ‘Bronx Bombers’, he won the World Series seven times across the 18 seasons between 1951 and 1968 that he featured in the Major League.
Buyers usually prefer to remain anonymous, but this time it has been revealed that it is the actor and Silicon Valley businessman Rob Gough won bought the card.
