‘The best day of my life’: Emile Smith Rowe reflects on Arsenal’s win over Spurs

Arsenal youngster Emile Smith Rowe admitted he’d had the ‘best day of his life’ after his player of the match display in the Gunners’ north London derby win over Tottenham on Sunday.

Smith Rowe scored the opening goal for his side in a rampant first half, which also saw him assist Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for a fluid second goal. Smith Rowe’s fellow academy graduate Bukayo Saka ensured victory with a goal of his own before half time.

Son Heung-min scored a consolation for a poor Spurs side in the second half, but the praise came for a youthful looking Arsenal who had endured a difficult start to the season under Mikel Arteta.

The hosts were bottom of the table after three league games – with Spurs top – but three games later the red side of north London have leapfrogged their nearest rivals in the table on goals scored.

Smith Rowe, speaking to Sky Sports alongside Aubameyang in the post-match press duties, went on to reflect on something he’s always dreamed of doing.

“It’s the best day of my life,” the 21-year-old admitted. “I’ve dreamed of this day to score against Tottenham. With my family here as well, it’s the best feeling ever. I’ve been working a lot in training on my finishing and I am really happy with the goal.”

He even set aside some time to credit Arteta, who has been under serious pressure following Arsenal’s start to the season.

“The manager, he just tells us to keep calm, we’re young players in a massive game,” he added. “He encourages us so much and gives us so much confidence, not just the manager but the players in the team as well.”
