The horror 140 km/h crash that saw a skier cross the line on face

Skiing Airlifted to hospital

Brutal fall from Urs Kryenbuehl

There were hearts in mouths at a skiing event in Kitzbuhel on Friday as a Swiss skier suffered a horrific crash at the end of a downhill circuit.

Urs Kryenbuehl was going at speeds faster than 140 kilometres per hour when he misjudged the final jump down to the finish line.

The jump caused Kryenbuehl to tip forwards in mid-air and land face first into the snow, rolling over the finish line at the bottom.

The Swiss was attended to on the course, while the event had to be suspended momentarily. He was then airlifted to hospital for tests.

Ryan Cochran-Siegle also experienced a crash at Kitzbuhel on Friday and, like Kryenbuehl, was taken to hospital via a helicopter after colliding with some netting.
