The Manchester United superstars who could be looking for the Old Trafford exit in January

With it finally announced on Monday morning that Ralf Rangnick will be taking charge at Manchester United until the end of the season, the former RB Leipzig boss will know that he has quite the job on his hands.

While the Reds might have managed to snatch a 1-1 draw away at Chelsea last weekend, United still find themselves in what appears to be an uphill battle to secure another top-four finish.

Now collecting just a single Premier League win from their last eight outings, Rangnick will also have to deal with the futures of a number of United’s big-name stars.

Along with Paul Pogba’s contract still ticking away, we have taken a look at a handful of players who could be looking for the Old Trafford exit in January.

Dean Henderson

Putting pen to paper on a bumper new five-year-deal just 15 months ago, many fans around Old Trafford would have been expecting Dean Henderson to really cement his spot as Manchester United’s number one keeper.

However, having to watch on from the bench as David de Gea has been one of United’s only positives this season, it now appears that the 24-year-old could have his sights set on securing a move away when the January transfer window reopens.

Largely failing to build off of what was a standout time with Sheffield United during his two-year loan switch, Henderson has also lost his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

Potentially looking to reignite his career elsewhere before the window slams shut, The Telegraph reported last weekend that Rangnick could already be looking to move Henderson on.

Donny van de Beek

Along with the continued talks regarding Pogba’s current deal that ends next summer, the World Cup-winner is not the only Manchester United midfielder who has question marks over his future.

While Donny van de Beek might have made the move to England last year tipped as one of Europe’s top young stars, the Dutch international still finds himself in the midst of what has become a Premier League nightmare.

Yet to start a single top-flight game since opening the 2021/22 campaign, Van de Beek almost became United’s forgotten man during his time working under now-former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær.

However, while the ex-Ajax starlet might welcome the arrival of Rangnick, The Telegraph’s report also suggests that the 24-year-old could be another big name that the German is looking to move on in January.

Jesse Lingard

While Jesse Lingard might have made a brief cameo appearance in Sunday’s 1-1 draw away at Chelsea, all signs are pointing towards the England international heading for the Old Trafford exit in January.

Once again failing to break into Solskjær’s starting XI, United’s academy graduate is yet to start a single Premier League game so far this season amidst real frustration.

With Sky Sports reporting last month that Lingard has no interest in signing a new deal in Manchester, United could look to cash in on a player who soon enters the final six months of his current contract.

Racking up nine goals during a wonderful loan spell at West Ham last season, The Daily Mail have reported that the likes of AC Milan, Everton, and the Hammers are all keen on striking a deal in January.

Anthony Martial

Managing to muster just nine appearances across all competitions this season, Anthony Martial is another Manchester United ace who has once again struggled to hold down a place.

Dividing opinion at Old Trafford since arriving from Monaco in a deal worth £36million back in 2015, a report from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo on Monday suggested that the French forward is on Barcelona’s radar.

While the Spanish giants might be dealing with some public financial issues in Catalonia, Mundo Deportivo’s report even suggests that Xavi’s new side have made an inquiry about the out-of-favor 25-year-old.

With Xavi rumoured to be an admirer of the 30-cap international, the former Spanish champions could be looking to strike a loan deal with an obligation to buy when the window reopens in a month’s time.
