NBA Punished for breaking protocol
Attending a family party has cost Kyrie Irving a total of 876,898 dollars. The Brooklyn Nets star was fined and docked wages as punishment for breaking coronavirus rules.
Irving was caught on video attending an indoor family gathering without wearing a mask and was fined 50,000 dollars for breaching the NBA‘s COVID-19 protocol.
As part of the NBA‘s statement on the matter, the league outlined their protocol rules which “among other things prohibit attending indoor social gatherings of 15 or more people or entering bars, lounges, clubs or similar establishments.”
Irving also has to undergo a five-day quarantine period for breaking the rules and, during that time, he’ll forfeit his Nets salary for any games he misses.
Before that quarantine period ends on Saturday, Irving will have missed two games, which totals 816,898 dollars in salary for the Nets.
Irving has missed each of the Nets‘ last five games because of personal reasons but will be able to return to the team on Saturday if he tests negative for COVID-19.
