Tottenham accept offer from Qatari side Al-Duhail for Toby Alderweireld

Toby Alderweireld’s mooted departure from Tottenham is nearing ever closer after the club accepted a £13m offer from Al-Duhail in Qatar.

The Belgium international has been a brilliant servant for Spurs since moving to north London in 2015. In his six years at the club he’s made 174 Premier League appearances and came within 90 minutes of helping them notch their first ever Champions league crown back in 2019.

Despite having been a regular in the starting lineup for the majority of his Tottenham career, the 32-year-old is seemingly being eased out of his side’s first-team plans.

He’s subsequently informed the club of his desire to move on this summer, and The Telegraph report that he could be on the verge of doing just after Spurs accepted a £13m bid from Al-Duhail.

Alderweireld is yet to discuss personal terms with his possible new club and the move would be subject to a medical – but all being well his north London exit could well be confirmed in the coming days or weeks.

The news is just the latest example of a changing of the guard at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as new boss Nuno Espirito Santo and general manager Fabio Paratici look to freshen up their squad ahead of the new season.

Spurs are understood to be in talks with a number of potential new arrivals – as talks with Cristian Romero, Bryan Gil, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Pierluigi Gollini progress – while plenty of outgoings are also expected to be confirmed during this transfer window.

Erik Lamela is nearing a move to Sevilla as part of the proposed Gil transfer and his exit certainly won’t be the last this summer.

One man the club will be hoping to keep hold of is Manchester City target Harry Kane – with 90min recently revealing Daniel Levy is adamant he’ll retain the services of his star striker – while the recent news that Son Heung-min has penned a new four-year deal will come as a huge relief to the club.
