Touchdown! NASA's Perseverance rover lands on Mars

NASA’s Perseverance rover touched down on Mars this Thursday and delivered the first images of the red planet back to Earth.

At around 21:55 CET – the aircraft completed its journey without major complications, and there was an outpouring of joy at NASA as Perseverance settled onto Mars‘ surface.

NASA released the images it captures on social media.

The Mars 2020 Mission will bring a group of vehicles, equipped with highly sophisticated equipment, to the Red Planet.

Perseverance is a three-metre long vehicle of about the size of a small minivan, which weighs around a ton, and its mission is to discover whether the plant was ever habitable.

It’s the largest device ever sent to Mars and is accompanied by a drone helicopter named ‘Ingenuity’, which will be the first human vehicle to fly over another planet.
