Transfer rumours: Man City & Real Madrid fight for Haaland, Cavani to leave Man Utd

Manchester City are leading the chase to sign Borussia Dortmund and Norway striker Erling Haaland, partly due to the good word put in by his father Alf-Inge, who was a Maine Road favourite in the early 2000s.

However, Real Madrid have not given up hope of landing Haaland, and could be helped in their bid for the forward by adidas – the player’s sponsorship deal with Nike ended in January.

Edinson Cavani is expected to leave Manchester United this summer and is eyeing a move to Spain. Interim boss Ralf Rangnick recently spoke of the need for the Red Devils to sign a younger striker and the Uruguayan’s departure would increase this necessity.

Liverpool are preparing to offer a new contract to Roberto Firmino, who was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona at the back end of the January transfer window.

The Reds also want to hand a fresh deal to James Milner.

Meanwhile, Frenkie de Jong now wants to stay at Barcelona after similar speculation saw him touted with a move to Liverpool as well as Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Chelsea have been linked with their first new player since becoming crowned Club World Cup champions on Saturday evening – Brighton defender Adam Webster is being considered by the Blues’ top brass.

Their interest in the Seagulls centre-back partly stems from the uncertain futures of three current defenders, with Cesar Azpilicueta edging closer to a free transfer to Barcelona.

One other centre-back being eyed by Europe’s top clubs is Lyon’s Jason Denayer. The Belgium international is out of contract in the summer and is being monitored by Juventus, Newcastle, Napoli and, of course, Barcelona.

Youri Tielemans is continuing to resist Leicester’s advances over a new contract, with the midfielder unsure that his long-term future lies at the King Power Stadium – particularly with several clubs in England and abroad interested in his signature.
