Twitter reacts to Burnley ending Liverpool’s sensational home league record

All good things must come to an end, and after nearly four years unbeaten at Anfield, Liverpool’s proud home league record has bitten the dust.

Ashley Barnes’ penalty seven minutes from time was enough to secure all three points for Sean Dyche’s men, leaving Jurgen Klopp’s side six points behind Premier League leaders Manchester United.

Having opted to rest both Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Divock Origi were afforded their chance in the Liverpool front three, and it’s fair to say the latter didn’t cover himself in glory as he missed a gilt-edged opportunity to put his side 1-0 up on the stroke of half-time.

With the first half ending in stalemate, the Reds continued to push throughout the second half, but in truth it was clear to see that they’d just ran out of ideas, and Burnley looked like heading for a hard-earned away point.

And then it happened. Barnes stole in and clipped the ball over Alisson, with the Brazilian ploughing through the Burnley frontman, giving Mike Dean no choice but to point to the spot.

The former Brighton forward coolly slotted home the spot kick, with the Clarets hanging on for a sensational win and ending Liverpool’s remarkable home league record.

While Liverpool’s home record going up in smoke will of course grab the headlines, it seems the opponents who took said record are enjoying just as much of the limelight.

Dyches’ side had picked up just one away win in the league this season prior to their trip to Anfield – and even that came via a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang own goal – underlining just how much of an achievement their win over Liverpool is.

Still, there’s got to be something for Chelsea fans to smile about this season, even if it’s not their own team’s performances.

The Barclays, eh? That’s just nothing quite like it.
