West Ham among clubs interested in Marcos Senesi

West Ham are among the European clubs interested in signing Feyenoord’s highly-rated Argentine defender Marcos Senesi, 90min understands.

The 24-year-old signed from San Lorenzo in 2019 and he has since emerged as one of the best defenders in Dutch football.

Senesi, who has been christened ‘The Gladiator’ by Feyenoord fans, is now on the radar of a host of teams who are watching him on an almost weekly basis.

A number of Italian clubs showed a keen interest in the summer with Roma and Napoli both making contact, while Barcelona also made an enquiry earlier in the year.

Now, sources have confirmed to 90min that interest is emerging from a host of Premier League clubs. One of those is West Ham – who were already looking for centre-back cover before injuries to Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma in recent weeks.

Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Leeds United and Newcastle United have also watched the defender in recent months.

Feyenoord are currently trying to entice Senesi to sign a new deal as he has just 18-months left on his current contract, but it remains to be seen if they can fend off the growing queue of suitors.

One of Senesi’s ambitions for 2022 is to make Argentina’s World Cup squad. He is currently without a cap but Walter Samuel, assistant coach for the national team, has spoken with him and many in Europe believe he has a strong chance of making the finals in Qatar

“I know that the opportunity will come and I will try to make the most of it, I have confidence in that. The decision is not mine, but I hope I have the chance to impress before the World Cup,” Senesi told Ole earlier this year.

“I spoke with Walter (Samuel), who told me that they saw me and were following me, and that I had improved a lot and the opportunity was going to come. I just have to work and wait for that call.”
