Monday evening sees last season’s Europa League qualifiers West Ham United and Leicester City do battle in east London.
The Hammers kicked off the new campaign with a great, if somewhat chaotic, 4-2 victory over Newcastle United, and David Moyes will be demanding that his players deliver the same levels of effort and quality against the Foxes.
The Scotsman will have a few decisions to make when selecting his starting lineup, with competition for places hotting up. But who should he pick?
Here’s 90min’s predicted West Ham lineup for their clash with Leicester.
Lukasz Fabianski (GK) – The pressure is on Fabianski to deliver while Alphonse Areola eyes his place between the sticks. He needs a good performance on Monday.
Vladimir Coufal (RB) – An integral part of the back line, Coufal offers so much in all three thirds of the pitch. FPL managers all over the country will have an eye on his returns.
Craig Dawson (CB) – His form may have dropped off from the start of last season, but Dawson will be aiming to recapture those highs against the Foxes.
Angelo Ogbonna (CB) – An underrated player in the Premier League, Ogbonna always does a solid job for his side. In the back line for this one.
Aaron Cresswell (LB) – Deadly with the ball at his feet in the final third, so much of West Ham’s play comes through Cresswell and his magical left boot.
Tomas Soucek (CM) – There are few more effective players than Soucek in the Premier League. He typifies exactly what Moyes wants from his players: heart, courage and infinite effort.
Pablo Fornals (AM) – Able to rotate with Said Benrahma and drift wide, Fornals offers so much in the final third – even if he doesn’t get the goals that he should.
Jarrod Bowen (RW) – Such a key figure in the forward line. Mixes work rate with intelligence, pace and skill. A proper Moyes player. No doubt he’s in the lineup.
Michail Antonio (ST) – One goal away from becoming West Ham’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League, and what better occasion to do so than on the return to the stadium of the Hammers faithful?
Said Benrahma (LW) – This man is fantastic, isn’t he? Benhrama got off the mark in the Hammers’ opening day victory, and impressed throughout. He’s going to explode this season.
