Parler Right-wing social media site
Apple and Google have removed social media network Parler from their app stores following Wednesday’s attack on the US Capitol building by Donald Trump‘s supporters.
The app had seen a surge in traffic after Trump‘s accounts on Twitter and Facebook were suspended after the violence in Washington DC.
Users of Parler tend to share the same right-wing ideologies, and the network has been promoted by VOX leader Santiago Abascal in Spain.
In recent weeks, the app has been linked to Republican supporters in the US, particularly those that strongly back Trump.
“We have always supported diverse points of view being represented on the App Store, but there is no place on our platform for threats of violence and illegal activity,” Apple said in a statement.
There are reports that Amazon are also looking to shut Parler out of their Web Services.
