Real Madrid – La Liga Full back has been frozen out of the squad
When Dani Carvajal was ruled out of action for two months earlier in the season, many expected that Alvaro Odriozola would finally get his chance to prove himself to Zinedine Zidane, yet that has not proven to be the case.
Odriozola played 57 minutes for Real Madrid on Matchday 3 of LaLiga Santander against Real Valladolid, but has not featured since, leading many to wonder just why the Frenchman is freezing the Spaniard out of his squad.
Carvajal was injured for two months from October, but Zidane opted for Lucas Vazquez to deputise for the Leganes born full back, despite being a winger by trade.
It’s clear that Zidane simply doesn’t trust Odriozola. His sending off against Real Mallorca in October 2019, a game which Los Blancos went on to lose, sparked the beginning of the end for the former Real Sociedad player as, just months later, he would be allowed to join Bayern Munich on loan.
His return last summer suggested that he might have a chance to turn a new leaf, but now he is behind Carvajal, Vazquez and even Nacho in the right back pecking order.
Since the start of the 2019/20 season, he has played just five times, and there seems to be no way back in the Real Madrid setup for Odriozola, so long as Zidane is in charge.
