When Son Heung-min could return for Tottenham from muscle injury

Antonio Conte confirmed on Friday that Son Heung-min has picked up a muscle injury – and admitted that he does not expect to see the South Korean back in action until February.

Son was withdrawn with ten minutes to go in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea, although Conte has confirmed that he did not make that change because of any injury concerns.

“It was a strange situation because against Chelsea, I made two substitutions together,” Conte explained in his latest press conference. “With Lucas Moura and then Son, but not for injury, the substitutions, but only to try to give them a bit of rest, 15 minutes of rest.

“Then the day after, he felt a bit of pain in his muscle, in his leg. He had a scan and now we have to make the right evaluation from the doctors.”

Conte then confirmed that he does not expect to see Son until February, after the upcoming international break scheduled for the end of January.

“I don’t know, but probably he will stay without training sessions until the end of this cycle, for the international break,” the boss confessed.

Son looks set to miss four matches in all competitions, but unfortunately for Spurs fans, three of them happen to be huge fixtures.

In the Premier League, Spurs are set to face both Arsenal and Chelsea before the end of the month, with the second round of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Thomas Tuchel’s Blues coming before those two.

Son will also miss Sunday’s FA Cup tie against Morecambe, although he was likely to be rested for that one anyway.

After the international break, Spurs get back to Premier League action against Southampton on February 9, before facing Wolves, Manchester City and Leeds over the remainder of the month.
