Real Madrid – La Liga Forced returns and physical preparation
Eder Militao and Alvaro Odriozola have been the latest additions to Real Madrid‘s long list of players who have picked up an injury at least once so far this season.
The club are concerned about the number of injuries, which have already reached 38, although they realise the complications of a season with a tight schedule following the COVID-19 outbreak.
As many as 20 players have picked up a knock at least once in the 2020/21 campaign, with some of Zinedine Zidane‘s men such as Dani Carvajal, suffering one or two injury setbacks after returning to action.
What the club are hoping to find out is whether those injuries are a consequence of forced comebacks to action, or poor fitness preparation before the games.
The 2-1 victory against Huesca, served to let off some pressure following a series of poor results and Zidane‘s frustration in Friday’s press conference.
However, neither Militao nor Odriozola will be at Zidane’s disposal for Tuesday’s match with Getafe, where Real Madrid will have just 12 first team players available in the squad.
Several youth players have been called up for the game against Jose Bordalas’ men, with Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez aiming to be the next to return to action.
Odriozola and Carvajal suffered injury setbacks, but players such as Fede Valverde, Isco, Eden Hazard and Marcelo picked up different knocks after recovering from their previous one.
Sergio Ramos has had muscle discomfort, but he is sidelined due to a knee injury, while Rodrygo Goes is not expected to return in less than three weeks.
Thibaut Courtois, Andriy Lunin, Raphael Varane and Vinicius Junior have also had injury issues this season.
