Xavi insists Barcelona youngster Gavi ‘has no ceiling’

Barcelona head coach Xavi has heaped praise on young midfielder Gavi, insisting that his potential is limitless.

Gavi, who is only 17 years old, has been one of the bright sparks in a dismal Barça season, impressing in a Blaugrana shirt and forcing his way into Luis Enrique’s Spain squad.

He continued his hot start to the 2021/22 season with a crucial goal and assist in a 3-2 win over Elche at Camp Nou on Saturday evening, and head coach Xavi was happy to wax lyrical about the young talent he has at his disposal.

“The way [Gavi] plays the game is spectacular and he has ambition and personality”, Xavi said post-game, via Marca.

“He is the future of this club. But not only him, also [Ronald] Araujo, [Alex] Balde, Nico [Gonzalez], [Ez] Abde. They are the future of the team and the club. They are a fantastic generation.

“They are the future of the team and the club. They are a fantastic generation. At that age I was scared, but they are wonderful.

“Gavi is a difference maker and I’m delighted to have him, but I don’t want to compare him to anyone. He has no ceiling.”

Barcelona moved up to seventh in La Liga’s table following the late victory against Elche, and could be within just three points of a Champions League spot by the end of this matchday while also retaining a game in hand on some of their rivals.

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti insisted his side are not one of those rivals earlier this week. Los Blancos remain 15 points clear of the Blaugrana and sit comfortably top of the table, with just one league loss to their name since the Italian’s return.
