Real Madrid 2-0 Valencia Joins Ramos and Hazard on sidelines
Zinedine Zidane has found himself lamenting another injury to a Real Madrid player this season. Dani Carvajal was forced off with a hamstring problem just 25 minutes into his return against Valencia.
The right-back joins Sergio Ramos, Eden Hazard, Rodrygo Goes, Fede Valverde, Marcelo and others on the treatment table for Los Blancos.
“I don’t understand it,” Zidane said after the 2-0 win over Valencia. “That’s a lot of injuries… I’m worried.
“When I lose a player, it annoys me as a coach. It’s a relapse – I feel for Carva. He played a good 25 minutes and I’m annoyed because he’s very important for us.
“But I can’t explain the reasoning [behind the injury problems] to you. As a coach, having injuries is the worst. They’ve come back to hurt us again.
“I only hope that [Carvajal’s injury] is a small one. We’ll see what the injury is and for how long he’ll be out for.”
On the other side of the defence, Ferland Mendy repeated his goalscoring exploits from against Getafe, only to be denied by VAR.
“I’m happy for Mendy because he’s getting forward now and he can contribute a lot in attack as well,” Zidane added.
“He scored a great goal [against Getafe] the other day and did the same today, though it was ruled out by a foot [being offside]. He’s settled in very well here. He’s a player that goes up and down [the pitch].”
The win over Valencia moves Real Madrid to within five points of Atletico Madrid again in the LaLiga Santander title race.
“The improvement is evident because the players believe in what they’re doing,” Zidane responded.
“There are still lots of points left up for grabs – 45 – and we’re going to see what happens.”
