Andy Robertson reacts to impending Arne Slot appointment at Liverpool

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson says his side are more focused on finishing the season strongly than who will replace Jurgen Klopp as Arne Slot prepares to arrive at Anfield in the summer.

The Reds have moved quickly to agree a deal with Eredivisie giants Feyenoord to snap Slot up, replacing the outgoing Klopp who announced his decision to depart earlier in 2023/24.

Both Klopp and club captain Virgil van Dijk have recently given cautiously positive verdicts on Liverpool’s decision to pursue Slot, who previously attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United, but Robertson only had eyes for the run-in ahead of Saturday’s 2-2 draw at West Ham United.

“It’s obviously something that we can’t focus on now,” the Scotland international told TNT Sports before kick-off. “There has been a lot of talk in the last couple of days and it looks like it’s nearly finalised, if not finalised.

“But we have to focus on this season and focus on trying to give this manager our all until the end and give him the farewell he deserves with what he has done for this club. That is what us as players have to focus on and we will focus on the new era when it comes to it in the summer.”

It was Robertson who dragged Liverpool level in Saturday’s lunch-time kick-off, equalising at the start of the second half after Jarrod Bowen had given West Ham the lead at the interval. Alphonse Areola’s own goal looked to have set the Reds on their way to three crucial points but Michail Antonio headed in to inflict another blow to Jurgen Klopp’s title hopes.

There was a heated touchline altercation between Mohamed Salah and the German boss before the Egyptian was brought on from the bench, with question marks looming over the 31-year-old’s future at Anfield.
