Roy Keane accuses Man Utd players of ‘giving up’ against Man City

Roy Keane has claimed that some Man Utd players should never play for the club again after ‘giving up’ in Sunday’s Manchester derby.

Ralf Rangnick’s side were thoroughly outclassed in the contest with City romping to a 4-1 victory thanks to braces from the mesmeric Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez.

In the closing stages, United even allowed their hosts to stroke the ball around under very little pressure with olé‘s ringing out around the Etihad.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, club legend Keane did not hold back in his assessment of the current crop of United players.

“It’s hard when you’re out there and you’re up against a really good team and they’re keeping the ball and you can’t get it back. But when you see some of the goals you’ve got to run back and tackle,” he said.

“United players have shown quality over the years but we’ve just seen a reflection of where the team is and where the club is.

“They’re so far behind some of the other teams. Some of the players, there’s ways to lose football matches. The way we saw Man Utd today, you still play with a bit of pride no matter what’s going on the dressing room.

“Your own bit of pride eventually has to kick in at some stage. I was getting really frustrated watching it because I can forgive mistakes but you’ve got to run back. There were five or six players and I’m thinking: ‘you should never play for Man Utd again’. Shameful.”

He added: “Wan-Bissaka, Fred, Maguire, Rashford came on, I could go on. You give up four goals and City weren’t even at their very best. They toyed with them a bit. They gave up, shame on them.”
